Q: Your thoughts about CCTV English News Channel?

I like watching some of the special programs they have. And, I think I learn many things. I do realize that it has certain biases built into it. But, overall, I find it entertaining. I am surprised that the Chinese government has allowed it to continue to broadcast on some of the things they say against China and the policies of the government.

I am surprised you cannot call their bluff. Saying slightly negative things is done to mask all the horror that goes on. If it had been all Panda babies you'd get suspicious faster. It is a propaganda channel. But yeah, some of the nature/culture stuff is OK.

I'd rather beat my tongue wafer thin with a steak tenderizer and then nail it to my dining table with a croquet hoop than watch 1 minute of CCTV "News".

Scandinavian:

where do you shop steaks? I mean, most steaks I've bought in China has been so crap from the start that trying a tenderizer seems pointless

Got a friend who owns a restaurant. He gets some reasonable quality cuts on occasion. Not as good as back home though. Any steak that you need to use a tenderizer on isn't going to be of good quality.

I'm sorry I can't fully reply to this question. Let me ask my in-studio expert about their feeling.

CCTV NEWS IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT!

Except for Wang Meng Meng.  She's as hot as buggery.

A question I often ask myself is do the non Chinese guests/experts they trot out know they are stooges?

the weather forecast is OK too

How does it compare with RT?

They always trot out nutty libertarians on that network. Especially that cashed up clown Jim Rogers. He just likes having makeup put on him, I think.

i occasionally zap to cctv news for a quick glimpse before my baby son starts complaining, but other than that i'm just like you - rarely watch tv other than my own downloads. but, ypu can still glean some basic info on current topics even from the most biased of sources. it helps if theres some comprehensible english audio, not just chinese yakkering. that's why: an english channel is better than none.

I think CCTV News is decent. You have to keep in mind that there is really very little demand in China for an English language news station so the fact that they can swing it is worth something in my book. The news segments are relatively informative about international news. A lot of the in depth reporting is pretty boring in my opinion depending on the topic but some of the travel segments are ok. I only really watch it at the gym when I do cardio. It's not like most news programs in America set the bar very high.

CCTV News, entertaining? What's TV like where you come from, OP?

Mouthpiece guests, repetitive ads, totally biased "news". It's shit and i haven't watched it since about 2012.

CCTV 9 is only slightly better than it was a few years ago when there were such gems as

"Crossover" and "Dialogue".

Brandon Blackburn-Dwyer’s and Mark Rosewell i remember as being particularly bad, so bad i wrote an email to CCTV letting them know my thoughts (politely of course).

they presented the most dull chat programs i ever saw: for example a 4 person discussion on 'subway stations of the world" - you just had to keep watching them for their complete awfulness.

things have not improved in time, therefore i have not seen any since 2013 preferring to watch a kettle boil instead.

I'm disappointed that they don't show enough images of Mao bellowing from the Imperial Palace and spout off paranoid nonsense with tenuous links to Ed Snowden's supposed discoveries. It's inspirational stuff and should boost their rankings hugely.
