Beside public colleges, have you ever seen such things in training centers, special courses or IGCSE/IELTS/... programs?
Seems like being able to pay the (overpriced) fee is the only test?
Some will argue that students join these programs to learn, indeed, but in most cases a certain level of fluency is previously required to be able to follow at all. You don't throw fat rich kids with zero English in a program designed for those with conversational level.
So, is there any place in this damn country that enroll students based on their level and motivation instead of how rich they are?
I work in a training center. We have admission tests. I made them up.
There seems no be no shortage of students at the western elite universities. Wow, most of the leaders kids were granted scholarship to Yale, Oxford, Cambridge. Bo Xilai for example. Apparently Harvard was so impressed with his school scores that they granted him use of the pool ferrairi car to go on dates.
But of course, elitism only happens in China. Any idea how many thick kids from "good" families have ended up in charge of the UK, for example.

c'mon,,, does Harvard really have a pool Ferrari? I'm certain the top universities provide special accomodation for elite students, but I cannot imagine Harvard having a pool Ferrari.
Ok, here is what I really wanted to throw out there on the discussion table- we all know this example of rich families children being afforded special treatment @ premier educational institutions. many have cited the example as if to say the children (students) weren't really up to par and had only gained admittance due to family influence. that is where my question comes from- I was thinking that the students, for the most part (90%+/-) are qualified for admittance. I say this because chances are that these students are actually high performers. I mean they come from families with successful parents/backgrounds, they were probably given high-quality education as a youth and were probably expected to excel academically speaking. well, just a thought....
