Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: America would be a better society if it had a Chinese leader
I was just talking to a woman in a coffee shop. We had a conversation about the censorship of history and politics in university classes. She was fairly open-minded, though surprised to learn that Western people do not have to believe in God (the assumption that Western beliefs are state-mandated is interesting).
And then she told me that according to her male friend, who is an "expert in Chinese medicine and Chinese culture", America would be a better society if it had a Chinese leader. This is because Chinese people have "wisdom" that Obama and other American leaders don't have. Now, I'm not especially pro-American, but this does A) strike me as the pinnacle of Chinese arrogance and delusion, and B) raise some questions. I'd love to hear from a Chinese person on the following:
1. What is this elusive "wisdom" to which Chinese people refer?
2. What has been the result of this wisdom? Or is my assumption that wisdom should have positive results simply evidence of my erroneous bourgeois education?
3. How would a Chinese leader benefit American society?
4. By amazing good fortune, China has had a series of Chinese leaders. How's that going for them (compared to, say, any Western democracy)?
5. Why do all Chinese people with enough money want to immigrate to America or anywhere but China?
6. Can someone be an expert without having intelligent ideas that stand up to scrutiny and have been tested in debate? Is being an expert simply the absence of people questioning you?
1. What is this elusive "wisdom" to which Chinese people refer?
If you do not see it, it means you do not have it. You can't grasp it, you have to be Chinese to see it.
2. What has been the result of this wisdom? Or is my assumption that wisdom should have positive results simply evidence of my erroneous bourgeois education?
5000 years of history, China have too many people, foreigners/Japanese did it back in 1860/1910/1937
3. How would a Chinese leader benefit American society?
Less strict, more ren hao, people understand China better, people speak Mandarin
4. By amazing good fortune, China has had a series of Chinese leaders. How's that going for them (compared to, say, any Western democracy)?
Chinese economy #2 of the world, soon #1. Pollution/huge economic gaps/income recession => others have it too + you don't understand China
5. Why do all Chinese people with enough money want to immigrate to America or anywhere but China?

No why. You're fat. My feeling are hurt.
I am following the 2016 nominations.. and to be honest, your friend has a point about the God thing.
The American constitution prohibits God from being in the Government. But God is the fashion these days, so I doubt we will see a secular president in the white house.
Such a shame to see religion be a vote winner... "Hey.. my God is better than your God"
Ammerica is reverting to the middle ages. Your friend has a good point.
ScotsAlan:
But Bernie Sanders... if you are American please vote for him. He is a game changer. Bernie Sanders is the man the world needs. Put him with the Pope... problems solved.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
funniest thing I've read in ages!
ScotsAlan:
Seems you have not been following the nominations for republican candidate 2016. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. brainwashing .. yup... the best brainwashers are so good.. So good the brainwashed cant see it.
She already revealed to you her understanding of chinese wisdom . "And then she told me that according to her male friend, who is an "expert in Chinese medicine and Chinese culture", America would be a better society if it had a Chinese leader." An expert on what?.....saying what.....?
What is Chinese wisdom?
Starting from 1949 Chinese worldwide call them mainlanders. They never call them mainland chinese. Sounds pretty wise to me.

China's greatest author/philosopher described his own people by the Ah Q. analogy: weak, craven, boastful and arrogant. You clearly mistook one for a normal person, and held her to standards of reasoning and sociability that she is incapable of.
It's like the comedian Chris Rock said: You can be having a civilized dinner in a restaurant, and all of a sudden the waiter stabs you in the neck with a fork "take this you f*cking n*gger!". In that case he should apologise to the waiter for leaving his neck all exposed - coulda know what would happen.
Don't drop your guard in China, Samsara!
-Was she hot? The willingness of a man to listen to a woman spout nonsense is directly related to her looks.
-And yes, this woman was quite silly.
Samsara:
Yes, rather attractive, early 30s, not married. Hilariously, she said she often gets set up on dates with Chinese men but it never goes further because she doesn't want to touch them. Can't fault a girl for that.
rasklnik:
Exactly. If a fat middle aged dude had said this, you'd have called him on this BS right then and there.
Samsara:
I did call her on her BS right then and there.
My need to challenge stupid ideas (rational inconsistencies, bias, self-congratulatory and conveniently untestable claims, etc.) eclipses my need to keep people happy, make friends, or procreate.
It's just being blind to other cultures. This is common, not only in China. It's the thought that "if these people/if that country would be more like me/would more like my country, then things would be better" It's more obvious to us as we are in China and we often talk with Chinese people, and also because most Chinese people have little to no understanding of foreign cultures.
I'm fairly sure this is what the Greeks under Alexander where saying, and the Persians under Xerxes, and the hordes under Genghis, and the Romans under (lots), Spanish and Portuguese were were saying a few hundred years ago.. and then the Brits... and now the Americans....
(and a whole stack of others I didn't mention...).
4. By amazing good fortune.
By this ,Im assuming you are talking about China's amazing economic growth these past few decades. Here is the reality (IMHO). The globalization phenomena was hashed out in the board rooms of think tanks in the west years before "The economic miracle of China " occurred. In effect, the west designed what you see today, regardless of what any Chinese think they did to/for this process. Chinese pride themselves into arrogantly thinking they are so smart, as they think they designed their own destiny. This is far from the truth. There are organizations much more powerful than nation-states. One only needs to look in the right places on the net to find out who is pulling the strings. The why of it all can be much more daunting in finding out the truth.
