I am a disgruntled worker who is fed up with the B.S. that Chinese bosses get away with. I'm suing my boss without shame and willing to do whatever it takes to finally nail one of these bastards to the wall. I've gone through a streak of 3 foul employers in a row. Which makes me extremely thankful for my first employer and sad that I left. I have a personal vendetta against the crooked scammers and I have recently turned down 6 new employers who I interviewed with by boldly pointing out the numerous laws they are violating. If you want to see an example of the follow-up questionnaires I submit to possible employers or if you want to know more about Chinese labor laws, then I've posted some blogs which might interest you.
I usually contact SAFEA, when Contract is not respected by my employer,
Today, I'll do it for the 3rd time in two years.
icnif77:
Principal at my School called my Chinese friend, and confirmed School wants to sign new Contract in May.
I'm waiting for email about details of Principal's answers.
I didn't call SAFEA as of yet!
No any trouble for me. My boss is an excellent manager, there's mutual trust and respect, company abides by the law, and rules are fond, implemented and respected.
Oh, it's not a Chinese company......
Very happy with my boss, very good at managing a small tech company. He cares about the employee and he doesn't cut corners. The company is of course about making profits, but it goes beyond that ie. solving important problems.
He is a Chinese who studied and worked in US for at least 2 decades, got the US citizenship, and now he is back in China. If much more Chinese were like him, China would be a very, very different place
KimOnach:
Just being curious, what are the reason(s) he chose to go back to China to engage in such an industry?
Tax incentives? Are they worth the bargain?
DrMonkey:
Well, from what he told me and what I saw...
* His kids grew up in USA, and knowing them personally, their culture & behavior is very similar to well-educated US people I met before, with Chinese-American aspects. So my boss felt that living in China for a little while would do good to his kids, connecting them with their Chinese roots.
* My boss and his wife have most of their family in China, parents are old, so being closer to them is a factor.
* Business-wise, it's easier in China for him to open a small tech start-up company, because he can get *LOTS* of gouv. help (national and provincial), he have an impressive network of Sea Turtles (who do the same things, small tech. companies that complement each other), labor is cheaper, he can do things at a larger scale with less red-tape on the way.
* While doing all this, he feels he is doing a good thing for the country : bringing new techs, setting examples of proper entrepreneurship, work ethic, etc.
I'm still waiting for the OP to post a link to the blogs as says he has written about this.....
Not at all! I had a lavish dinner given by the boss last evening. Sitting next to him enjoyed a very positive conversation with him. Best of luck
Yes, my boss is a cruel slave driving jerk!
But I need the money so I can't quit... because
I am self-employed.
99% of schools wanted me to teach without the visa. I refused. That's why I was unemployed for so long in China. When I finally accepted one job out of desperation, they tried to steal my passport... lol
I didn't sue my boss. I did something even more extreme and anti-social. I won't even talk about it here. Let's just say that I won... big time. I don't know why everyone in China kept calling my bluff. It gave me endless entertainment.
WanderingTeacher:
I want to hear about this extreme and anti-social thing that you did lol..sounds like a good story!
Hulk:
Maybe some day, when we return to China. You know, within the next never?
Nope. My boss is excellent! I don't even see him like a boss really, we see each other more as friends/brothers. I even told him I was Gay and he was completely ok with it! I'm very grateful I didn't end up with one of those terrible bosses I hear about.
First 'boss' (head of Foreign Affairs dept), money-hungry arsehole, who usually left us alone. Some had problems, others didn't. The Dean of the English dept was cool
Second 'boss' - I pointed out that my taxes that were taken out of my pay weren't going to the taxation department... they lied about it all, and - although the knew - did nothing about it. She also BS'ed when it was time for contract renewal/upgrade. Otherwise, for most of the rest of the year, no other real issues, and she had minimal power/control.
Most recent boss - London girl - GREAT!!!!! We normally get along like a house on fire, but she doesn't always see eye to eye with me on the best way to actually get our students educated (I want them to take responsibility, she's complacent to let them do bugger all... I say let them fail!) VP of company (Chinese) - I can get along with. He usually leaves us alone, but I've been able to discuss doing a deal with him to teach a special class. Most recently, I've even gotten more than I was after, for my latest employment... I think he's backed off a little in regards to trying to change things for the sake of showing himself up as a new VP...
I spoke to Urumqi SAFEA this morning. I sent FEB officer an email with explanation of School's Contract violations.
He called School, and: 'School will cover all my monetary demands (by Contract), but they won't extend Contract in May, 2014.
I sent an email to FEB's officer about todays happenings at the School, so let's wait for his reply.
I'm guessing, School is only bluffing. Principal wanted to show, who's 'powerful woman in the house', other part was '(losing) face', IMO.
Reality here is 'no FT, no Gov. grants'. FT receives approximately 70% of Gov. grants, and rest is School's pocket.
We had promised meeting next Monday for new Contract signing.
I'll know more after Monday!
