Q: Is dating in China changing ?
Hello guys
I have been in China for a couple of years and at the beginning I always heard a lot of "no sex before marriage" or all these ideas that basically meant that women should stay "true" to one man and one man only throughout their whole life. ( which I personally find extremely sad).
Careful now i'm not saying all Chinese women adhered to that perspective but simply that i met a lot.
But nowadays , in Beijing at least, I seem to encounter mostly women who wish to adopt more liberal views on things, we sometimes discuss it with my colleagues, friends, etc ... and now it seems more normal to date and take your time before getting married, see if you like each other and if not break up, maybe even try living together before tying the knot.
Now i'm neither saying that this never happened before or that now no women goes for the "traditional approach", but simply that, at least in Beijing, the whole idea of dating seems to be more and more accepted.
Or is that just me ?
Sex before marriage happens in China. Sex after marriage? I'm not so sure.

Confused. Are you saying the liberal view is to take your time and no sex before marriage?
Trust me. I am a liberal. The "take your time and no sex" thing is very much a right wing "Jesus lover" concept of right wing morality.
Jesus, of course, was a liberal. A very socialist one at that. Don't believe me? Read his book.

it could boil down to that old stereo type , men with many partners are studs but women with many partners are slutts.

However in the second part of your question on changing views, I think you are right .China is changing generationly like all cultures.
only last century did women get to vote.
Some countries are more as they say progressive than others on this particular subject.
