Q: Flying a drone in cities? Legislation?

I found a new hobby, making aerial videos using drones, I tried a friend's drone and I love it. I plan to acquire a DJI Phantom 2 and start recording in urban centers such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen once I fully master piloting the drone, then do a montage and upload it on Vimeo or Youtube.

Is there any legislation in Mainland China concerning drones? I know that they are banned in many European countries.

Welcome to the grey zone.

That rare moment where something new and interesting has appeared, isn't yet popular enough so a dumbass has crashed it into something or otherwise created a massive disturbance with it forcing the paranoid government to ban it unilaterally.

Enjoy, that won't last.

I agree with RiriRiri, they will get banned in a year or so. It is unavoidable. Imagine your average guy here. They will be trying to perv on women through windows. People could also use them to spy on officials.

Lord_hanson:

p.s. good choice with the phantom 2. I was tempted to get one but know that they will get banned.

I can see the headline now:

"foreigner flies camera over city, accused of spying!"

Be sure to avoid any military or government facilities.  Most cities i know they are spread all over the city, so that might be hard.

Better yet, fly it over North Korea from Dandong...

Lord_hanson:

careful with that, NK soldiers care little about international borders.

There was a guy in Beijing who was arrested for using a drone- I'm pretty sure they'll be very pissed off if you try and use one to film here

Eorthisio, you might be interested in this article. Someone made a drone video in Shanghai, I guess with no legal problems.

I have a friend back home who does drone videos. They are awesome. But it seems to be an addictive hobby. He is always swooning over the latest model and spend loads of money on it with battery upgrades etc.
