Q: Has Apple lost it's mojo?

The Chinese girls I know have no enthusiasm for the IPhone 7. Chinese brands seem to be the desired product at the moment.

There is some mirth in the south about iphone 7.

In Cantonese, seven is pronounced chut, and is also slang for penis. The word isn’t particularly offensive. Instead, it is often used to describe a hilarious person or thing, or mock someone gently.

Take samsung galaxy note - “Note 7” sounds like “a stick of penis” in Cantonese.

I'm sure locals in the south are looking forward to model 9 arriving. Cantonese for 9 is go which sounds like dog....another slightly more offensive slang word for dick.

How many people want to walk around with an iDick in their hand?

For reference:

China :“This is penis” or Taiwan: “Penis, is here” or Hong Kong: “Exactly is penis”

Gotta love cantonesewink

How do you feel about the no headphone jack? Thats a big turn off for me, I'm always losing headsets, but the long wires help me find them sometimes, but now I know I would lose one of both easily.

It is the way of things to come but I understand you can still use wired earbuds by connecting through the C port.

I'm not an apple fan. My phone requirements don't justify the outlay.

dunno about PRC, but other places that 7 sold-out before they could deliver.  I'm not quite sure what they meant, but I guess the pre-orders were more than the stock they had,,, or sth like that.  Anyway, it seems to be a hit with the fans.

I looked at it and it seems impressive spec wise.  A good move to lose that old headphone jack.  wireless is the way to go for sure.  It will take some getting used to but it's just the ol' march of progress.   Camera seems better and better, faster CPU, larger memory, stereo speakers.  It probably has some bugs,,, but generally headed in the right direction.

probably what scares people off is the cost.  but,,,,,   luxury goods are high priced.  Ferrari would suck if it costs the same as Toyota.

ScotsAlan:

Cameras. Yup. You can buy a decent DSLR, a laptop with light room, and a phone for the same as an IPhone 7

I don't know, but Apple stocks seem to be dropping since Huawei ripped off their Mac design and a popular choice of mobile phones.

I think the CCP is slowly trying to kick them out/make them unpopular to prop up the domestic market selection.

ScotsAlan:

I agree. The domestic phones have Chinese Government money behind them. They want a slice of the cake.

Let me try to throw a.theory out here, I think Apple will score big on iPhones due to that Samsung Note 7 blow up issue. It's like no choice gotta get an Apple for that kind of money, cant is risk losing it to a Samsung. ( I use Samsung 7 edge, love it.) But if I had to spend 6000 on a new phone today I have no choice, iPhone 7. Cant risk Samsung Note. See my point ?

diverdude1:

exactly!  Samsung screwed the pooch big time!  I carried their phone for a long time, maybe 3 years, seemed fine,,,, but I finally bought an iphone (6s+) just because I had always loved my macbooks and ipad.  I must say I am very pleased with my iphone,,,,, but I think the biggest thing is the ease and intuitive use of the OS and the way the phone/tablet/laptop all communicate together.  I like that feature myself.  ,,,,and it seems  people just don't seem to like Android much,,, even though I hear tech-nerds luv it for some reason.

lotsa people caught smuggling iphone7 from HK to SZ the other day.  (yesterday?)

I need and love Samsung for one Samsung app that sets the world apart from iphones: KNOX

Its the greatest app or built in software that ever came to this world. I really need to diagnose myself with personality disorder. lol.... If you don't know what I mean or never trired KNOX try it, you'll love it, ever heard the old saying "Have the best of both worlds" well trying actually having two worlds.

I still sort of like windows phones. But they will be gone soon. Very difficult to find in China now. They are advertised on Taobao. But suppliers have no stock.

iWolf:

They are probably branded Microsoft nowadays since MS bought Nokia phones.

I used to have a Nokia smartphone. I was indeed very good but there were next to no apps were available so I moved on to chinese android. Cheap and does the job.

Yup. They are Microsoft branded now. Mine is a few years old so still Nokia. The lack of apps is a pain, but I get by for now. I think there will be less and less apps. Microsoft destroyed Nokia.

Apple is losing innovations. its hardware has been surpassed by many Chinese phones. They are much cheaper, same hardware and lower price. It begins losing market shares in China. But Apple has its place in INNOVATION and DESIGN, there are still many young people or rich people going for it. It's cool to have iPhone in pockets and hands, many Chinese think like this, I assume.
