Q: If shots broke out between China and another country?

No world war 3 but even a small military action, what would China do to enemy nationals here?

deport?

arrest?

something else?

nothing?

The government would allow all foreigners to stay here and think up some excuse for blaming the expat community if the war turned against them.

Which nationals are you referring too?  Vietnamese, Philippinos, Indian?  I don't think there are that many nationals of potential warring countries in China.

I think it would depend on where you were. If you're out in the middle of nowhere. I can see the local government either fucking with you really bad just for the hell of it. Or just ignoring you altogether. Could go either way.

But really if China goes to war with your country they probably would deport you if you're somewhere like Shanghai or Guangzhou. Why wouldn't they?

I always worry about being placed in some internment camp like the Japanese in the US or Germans in the UK, Although quite a few germans were in fact refugees from the Nazis so they got let out pretty quick...

I'm guessing if it were anything major the official policy would be to ask you to leave but I'd be more worried about the mob justice in the streets against anyone perceived to even look like the "enemy"

At what point in the ongoing and escalating clash of powers should we Westerners on the mainland begin to worry about our safety? Some of you remember the anti-Japanese riots from several years ago and the strain that that put on native Japanese professors here. What are the chances that similarly unrestrained street mob riots could erupt against us in the near future, should all players in this international game continue along their present trajectories? Could we find willing transportation to airports in time? Would the local authorities ensure our protection before our flights left? Because, honestly, I'm kind of starting to worry. Should we leave now while the getting's good? Should we wait until we're told to leave? Or, is it still possible for a peaceful resolution to be reached? If we were eventually ordered to leave, either because our safety could not be ensured any longer or because we as Western foreigners were simply no longer welcome, how much time would we be given to leave? Would all of our things be confiscated before we left? Would our local bank accounts be frozen?

There are more Chinese abroad than there are foreigners here.

Wish I had youtube so I could post the clip from the "Italian job". You know the one? Where Micheal Caine comes up against the mafia in the alps.
