Q: Lazy Chinese expecting foreigners to work hard

Is this a common trait in schools?

This is perhaps the most arrogant question that has been posted on here yet - I'm glad they are making you work hard for the high salary that you get paid.

Like has been said before, if you are unhappy about the work, perhaps it is time to move onto a new job.

Foreign staff generally get paid up to 3-4 times the salary than the Chinese staff, for working fewer hours. If you're unsatisfied with your salary then you should move to another school, there are plenty of opportunities.

I don't think that it's unreasonable for your employers to expect you to work hard

I work as much as Contract state!

I never accept Contract with office hours, or I usually ask to be paid as much hours I must be at the School.

It's a bit 'uncomfortable' at Public schools, because Chinese teachers are in some 10h per day, and I arrive 1/2h before my 1st class, and leave immediately after my last class.

In last School in Fuk., I had schedule with only one 40' class on Fridays. I asked Head, if they could move that class to any other day, and she replied 'it's not possible, because of the whole School's schedule'. OK!

They 'hated me', because 'no office hours', and I felt unease to come in just for around 12h in total per week.

They expect you to work hard, because of your high salary by Chinese standards.

What is getting on my thingy lately, I have feeling everybody's looking how I'm going to spend my high salary 'efficiently', as 'do you have change for taxi, when going to cancel my RP', 'you can buy yourself fan for too hot apartment/air-condo very small', 'kitchen furnished with 20cm diameter cooking induction plate' (you can buy yourself an oven...comment of 'whale' US 'teacher').

Why should I buy anything for the apartment, if Contract state 'furnished kitchen'?

I don't work hard - I try to work smart!

My colleagues, in general, are not lazy (maybe not all of them should be there, but...). They seem to appreciate having me there, even though I do very little - and get paid a lot (comparatively).

Yes, Chinese teachers generally work harder than foreign teachers for much less money from my experience. Additionally, they're expected to be proficient in two languages rather than simply being able to speak their native tongue. Parents will also be tougher on the Chinese teachers and give the foreigners a free pass. Now of course there are some bad Chinese  teachers but they are usually fired quickly whereas foreign teachers have to be reaaalllly bad to get fired.

Robk:

Ah yes, working harder you say?

That would include sleeping at their desks (never saw this before China), playing with their phones and watching movies. Spying on their foreign co-workers and blaming every problem on them (in Chinese of course so the foreigner can't understand) to their bosses? Hold 5 hour meetings when only 20 minutes would suffice?

Even the cleaners basically just push water around and don't even clean properly. I would change your wording from "harder" to "longer due to inefficiency" and say you would be correct.

So what's the plan, Coach?

How is hiring people for 10,000 RMB a month to help run your youth football program going?

Where are you getting funding for this?
