Ha hem... I really wanted to give a silly answer or post a meme picture, but I'm not in a cheeky mood today.
You can do contracting work online. My own experience is around R&D, I got 2nd hand knowledge for graphic design, web design, etc. You can work online (ie you are at home, your customers are far, far away, but that's assuming you have one or more customers that trust you and your ability to do a really good work. Building this trust requires time, reputation and meeting your customers in real life. Your customers know you personally, they like you and depends on you for your business. For most bosses, they like to have their workers close from them. They will accept to have you far away, because they can't do anything without your work, they can't afford to say "no" to you.
Typically, you start to work for people for whom your worked already before. They recommend you to others, and little by little you get a set of customers. Most people will want to talk to you face to face when explaining what they wait from you.
I don't know of *ANYBODY* who would trust a random guy on the Internet to delegate some work. Most people trust someone they know, and that have a solid track record of excellent work.
Hello again anony. Apply to Womao's R Us.cn, pays more than the flashlights you can't get here.
My answer is almost the same as Dr M's.
If you look at any modern office most people are actually working online most of the time anyway.
You can do almost anything online. But, and this is a BIG but..... you need to have an established track record, and contacts, in a specific skill. And you will probably need to be available to travel to your clients for face to face meetings.
For example, I design things, and I have had offers to work as a self employed designer for a few Chinese companies. But I am reluctant to do so because my factory based job here comes with a Z, and that is very important for me.
I know another guy who set himself up as a VB programmer. But again, this guy had been doing this for years in an office and had a good portfolio and a good contact list.
Online workers present a good cost effective way for small to medium companies to gain a skill they need only on a part time basis. Why would a company employ a web designer full time when they only need someone for a few weeks?
And that's the downside. It's unlikely you will get a regular income. And you might have to spend more time looking for the work than actually doing it. Unless your are good of course, then the work will come find you.
So, I would say the first step in the process is to have a skill you can sell.
What specific skill are you selling?
That's not intended to sound cheeky. Someone here could maybe give you a few pointers if we knew.
Good luck
This question sounds like the thousands of times Chinese people have asked me how they can make a lot of money. What product sells well to foreigners? Really, if you have to ask this basic question, you have a long, long way to go. It is far too general a question to even address. The only answer to give you at this point is, you can do whatever you want to do. Sounds vague? That's because your question is vague. People who chase the money, really don't get it.

absolutely
'I couldn't be bothered sitting down thinking about my strengthens and skills, or what i was interested in doing. I have no goal other than to make money, so I'll ask a bunch of random strangers to do my work for me.'
what about the proof reading and data base work...
Heard there's some money in it too...
i know web designing but if OP also knew it he would not be having the need to ask this question...
From the question we can derive that he is a person who has got nothing to do BECAUSE he can do nothing..no skills no experience..directly dropped from heaven...
What's more.. the poor person can't even reply
