This weekend, myself and a few mates are having a weekend away. When I say away, I mean it is 40 mins away by car.
As we were arranging it, it occured to me that we are organising a weekend break in an exotic place, within spitting distance of where we all live.
My question is this. As you already live in China, does exotic travel mean flights to Vietnam etc, or places within a day of land travel? Does the definition of 'exotic' change depending on where you live?

When I was in China, the most 'egg-sotic' was Sichuan mountains known as panda's habitat not far away from Bijie, where I lived at the time.
Before I arrived to Bijie from Kaifeng, Henan, I thought that will be some exotic spot.
However, I rather went to Himalayas (Nepal and Himachal Pradesh, India) for vacation. Both spots are much more exotic than anywhere I was in China.
I missed Ho Chi Minh ....jungle, but I'll go there next, since I am in Russia and I don't like very exoticly-cold-Syberia.
Everywhere in China is under the developing drive and Himalaya is just a Himalaya till the next earthquake.
Really don’t see how you can call that area “exotic”? It’d be like my family going to Liverpool from Mabchestwr and calling that “exotic”!

Bet you had a holiday in Blackpool though. Or are you too posh for that?

Come off it, didn’t every one up North go to the ‘Pool? We used to go during wakes week with the rest of our town.
Thiugh we did exotic once...we went to Bridlington on the North-East coast
