Q: What is your opinion about my replies/comments to admin's thread?

Going for the few more 'eChina-tities' (non-existent) jackets, so I'll ask....

I am not really looking for replies and comments about me. Just in 'general' about your opinion on moderation on this Board.

Am I wrong at my replies/comments to admin's thread?

What do you think about (not) successful moderation of this Board?

Do we deserve English speaking/understanding mod at OUR Board in China?

There is a visible opportunity to open new 'eChina-tities' Board elsewhere .....

P.S.

I am a chart reader, in other words I'm trained to predict future (somehow).

My next prediction, beside Gold movements is:

"Mod, see 'you've got fired'' notice on your desk.....'

To be honest Icnif, I think you over reacted a little.

I agree, the post about relocating kids was in bad taste and just a stupid thing to say but it wasn't actually attacking people as such, didn't have profanity in it and was a lot milder than a lot of the stuff you see here in my opinion. That's not to say I think anyone will miss that guy's input, we won't but he was staying within the terms and conditions I think.

I have to say I'm happy enough with the job the mods are doing. I assume they all have actual jobs to do so can't be online 24/7 so when some idiot crosses the blurry line between what's acceptable and what isn't it might be a while before they see it. Especially if nobody reports it.

And that leads me to the blurry line. It's been talked about before. What's ok and what's not?

We had that wanker a few days ago ihatehonkies, everyone agreed he should go I think.

But then what about the endless posts asking inane questions about random stuff ? Some people here call them trolls and want them banned but they're at least harmless enough and don't offend anyone . The T&Cs are not being broken.

What about some of the heated debates between the regulars here? They can get pretty personal and sometimes abusive.  T&Cs might be broken but that's fine cos the people arguing are known, regular posters. They're always great threads to follow though.

What about when someone is having a bad China day and goes on a rant? Everyone does it at some point and if someone points out the racist nature of it the explanation is usually that they're just blowing off some steam. And it's true, they are but it could be argued the T&Cs are being broken. Nobody really has a problem with those posts.

What about people like Vicki and Cub who some people just take a dislike to? (not defending or criticizing anything here, just using them as examples) I've seen them both get some abuse which, if the T&C were being adhered to would get the poster banned, but they weren't banned and people were ok with that.

Most of this grey area stuff, people are fine with and I am too. I think it makes the website a more interesting place and is no doubt the reason we keep coming here.

So when someone calls for better moderation, bans on posters and the like my question would be this......

Can anybody provide a list of guidelines for the mods to follow, that would allow for all the grey area posts and topics where technically the T&Cs are being broken but it's cool to overlook them this time?

Probably not because it usually comes down to how do the regulars feel about that particular person and his/her posts and just seems like bureaucratic nonsense to me, so how about we just go with ScotsAlan's  idea and just leave things alone?

If someone is out of line they'll be told in no uncertain terms. If they keep it up the mods will probably step in if people are asking them to.

I feel like people are asking admin to be mind readers sometimes and selectively apply some vague undefined rules, then getting upset when maybe something that people don't like gets through.

old friend you are only amplifing others feelings on the matter.
until someone with brains and money comes along with a alternative site this is all we have .
maybe there is a user out there reading this that knows a electronic media publisher who would be interested in doing just that.
until then it seems that open season has been given the green light
so the choice is clear we either fire back or ignore .
even if it is just a No Why ?
i the funny thing is that this will be deleted in record time and the posts that offended the users will remain .

icnif77:

Imagine: Non (almost)  English poster amplifies the matter ????

At my first hit on this website, I said to myself: ''I'll better just read-learn here, not post/comment...''

I'm very sensitive to strange/deviant posts or acts about kids. Kids always reflect admiration toward me.

I believe, kids see something in me, what grown-ups can't. It is very similar with animals, wild or domesticated. They get something in my creature to make them docile. I don't understand what.

Had an experience when cops were looking at me as a strange/deviant person, because of kids attention to my presence. I have Non- crim cert. with me handy.

I can stop kid crying on unknown mother's shoulder just by look with my hands deep in the pockets.

I don't feel that, but there's something I can do, what am not really aware off.

So, I always react to posts about kiddies.

I should run out of rocks soon, 'cause this is getting too personal.angel

Amusing rant(Drunk. But accurate. Check your blood pressure.

We didn't have sledge, but thing made out of wood. I don't know the English word for that. It's like two sit wooden chair with 4 x20cm high legs connected with two thin wooden skies and metal string on the bottom of each ski. So, metal part of skies slide on the snow. Not sledge, I can't recall English word for that. You can sit or lie on it. Santa has same thing, but much bigger with deer pulling it. It might be sledge, however today's sledge is made of plastic, our was wooden, two person sit size or even smaller. Sled.

Oh I don't know. Moderation is definitely happening as I see Wolfies bukakke link and later rant got deleted on the English Corner topic.

So how's that, it was deleted? On what base?

'cause, I'm a mod, and I don't like web link's color.

Bad language is deleted but threatening to forcefully relocate the child population is ok. Yeah, kind of fucked up. I understand they don't want to decide which topics are acceptable or not.

icnif77:

If one wants to decide, one must understands first.

We don't delete anything (except naked pics, 'cause we aren't blind...), because nobody get the point of the thread/post/comment in English.

How can I understand (and be upset) as Non?

All mods are native English speakers. Right!

I'm not sure, if we talk about the same thread, because I didn't open it, but I agree 'stupid' should warrant some removal, too. If you get parking lot attendants as posters, you can leave it on. But, here posters aren't such.

I just read 'how the get rid of Chinese kids...' something similar title/Q, and then every time/day I saw thread is still standing, it gets into me. And rocks in my glass today too, a bit.

If the troll wanted a reaction he got it. You have all been posting long enough to know troll behavior. Ban him, and he will keep coming back with more and more stupid offensive stuff. I have seen it on many forums. Was "ihatehonkys" not banned, to be quickly followed by another very similar cockwomble?

It's only a forum ffs. It's not as if the troll was proposing to ban all Muslims from the USA. He did not make xenophobic remarks about Mexicans did he? He did not call Chinese people "nongs".

I see many racists posts on here. And anti china posts. Too many Republican posts. Ban them all? Nope. Debate, flame and finally ignore.

I don't need a grumpy cat to hold my hand. I can take as good as I give.

Lord_hanson:

Agreed, if someone says something stupid then call them out. Most adults here stupid or offensive things way to often. I didn't like the post eithet but if this gets deleted where do you draw the line as to what is acceptable and what isn't?

I just got a Admin Message that one of my replies has been harmonised because I joked that www.teenage-bukkake-party was an actual website.

But wholly deliberately offensive threads remain untouched.

One of your recent posts contained profanity or was abusive in nature, and was deleted for that reason. In the future, please be respectful of other users and refrain from using explicit language.

icnif77:

How do you think, mod knew your post is profanity?

Answering to Hot above here also: 'cause you posted web link!'

Once I click link, of course I can see what it's all about.

My point is/was: There must be Native, fluent English speaker to see/understand/moderate what people here talk about in English.

Counting to 20 in English doesn't give you that ability.

I think it is time to throw some reality into the mix.

I say abandon moderation. We all agree that moderation is patchy and subjective. I think the members here manage it well. If someone is being a dick, they will be told. If Someone is full of shit, they will be told. Anarchy? Mob rule? Give it a go
