Q: when will we get a HOME DEPOT type store in every little town?

there is that Metro thing in Guangzhou... that I know..  but it is just groceries and clothes and other easily accessible merchandise.

I want tools and equipment and construction materials and DUCT TAPE  and  I want these things available at every little store in my neighborhood....  (for competition ---hahahah)   when ?...  I want a good drill to afix my wood panels to this concrete block, I want a decent nail to use on my wood panels ..    I want a lot of things.....  and I just might do it to this rented 5th story concrete box ........

When paying someone to work for you no longer gives you face. There was a home depot near my home but it closed after an anti foreigner push by the government. There was a big sign put on the outside telling the american company to go home. It was forced to close. Making all those Chinese people lose their jobs must have taught those damn Americans!

Why make work for yourself dude? Just slum it.

Ha ha. Yeah, decent tools and materials make a massive difference. But you just can't get them here.

Look, there are 2 kinds of retail businesses in China: those who were taken over by standardized franchises (with different degrees of shitiness), and those who aren't and still monopolized by local lazy bums who couldn't be bothered to give a shit.

Hardware is the latest kind and will remain so for a long long time.

There's always small street shops that sell various home improvement stuff. I bought a wrench and pliers there.

B&Q have a number of stores in GZ. They're a UK version of Home Depot. From what I know they are scaling down their presence in China due to poor performance.

Mei think it's because most Chinese workmen won't pay good money for decent equipment & will "make do" with any old & cheap shit.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
