Q: Why do Chinese women leave western toilet seats up?

My wife and my MIL both do this. I like to sit for a pee... but every time I go I need to put the seat down. Why?

the shower with no curtain is next to the toilet, so the wife wants the seat up, does not like sitting on a wet seat from the shower.

It's funny as it is the opposite to the UK. There I used to get moaned at by women for leaving the lid up. In my apartment the seat is always down but my wife leaves the lid up.

Do your wife and MIL sit on the seat or do they actually squat above it? Do you find footprints on the rim of the bowl?

ScotsAlan:

I dont know what they do. Do they squat? I have no idea. Thats why I asked the question.

scotsalan why not ask your wife why she does this? of course unless its a government secret! communication is the key! maybe she thinks that a man usually stands up to take a leak leaving the lid up and its a bother to put the seat down!

my wife is the opposite: she gets an unpleasant surprise when the seat is left up. i usually sit too, but when i'm in a rush i'll lift the lid and leave it.
the house is personal space, so when the routine is disturbed it can be annoying.

They squat. Unfortunately they often miss, at least in public bathrooms. The also get poo up and down the walls. How they manage to do this is a mystery to me. I've seen it in many "ladies" rooms, even in nice places.

What.. full on squat with feet on the rim?

In Starbucks near where I live there is a sign in the bathroom that indicates how not to use the toilet (i.e. squatting on the rim).

It's kind of amusing that there are people in the world who drink iced caramel lattes but haven't figured out toilets yet. It's a consumerist peasant culture.

Yes scotts, not saying your wife does, but often chinese will stand on the seat and squat into the hole. In public toilets you will often see footprints. Samsara is right most starbucks will have a sign that asks them not to stand on the toilet.

Would be strange at home though, most people feel public restrooms are super dirty. Bum to bum.

You should probably just ask your wife. Haha she can clear this up.

ScotsAlan:

I could ask my wife....but...could you ask your wife? And tell us what she says :-)

Hahaha sorry Scotts im sure in this situation my wife doesnt qualify. Im always in shit for leaving the seat up. I have already asked about the footprints in public toilets and she confirmed its the squatting.

it's because you keep pissing on the seat, they have learned to love, and  like to sit on.

Haha, I actually asked this to my Ex-gf and she said...

because you pee standing up, and she doesn't trust my aim on target, so she thinks I may spill and leave stain on the seat, so there you have it...
