Definitely, many China bound business or institutions will be hunting for people who have had in-situ working experiences, esepcially those who have had some related business experiences or connections. It is advised people who return to home country should also participate in the China related business networking events especially those organized by the China related business councils where you can meet many business leaders, China scholars and government officials.
Not necessarily - it depends largely on individual circumstances. Part time foreign language teaching can sometimes be a killer in career progression. It is almost as bad as periods of unemployment on CV/resumes if not marketed correctly. China is possibly the worst case scenario from this perspective as the ESL/EFL market here has become so de-professionalized due to the nature of the education system.
I guess the most positive benefit would be returning to companies that have direct dealings with China and are looking for people with language/cultural skills. However, even from this perspective, the large number of overseas Chinese also make this a difficult job market to exploit.
Overall, I think that the benefits or negatives of Chinese experience on the CV will be very polarized. It will either be perceived as a strong positive or perceived as a strong negative. I doubt there will be very much neutrality about it.
In one sentence: Chinese experience is always good in resume, if it is related to business.
Obviously it's good for some sort of teaching/training career. Or if you learnt Chinese there'd also be a good chance of going into International relations or foreign trade (with China of course).
If you were a foreign teacher for a few years then went back to try and be an investment banker then you may run into more difficulty.
Depends, I would say it was good for mine because of my industry.
the ESL certificate gets their interest
and if you can speak it (depending on their customer base)
makes their eye's light up
i plan to be self employed so i want to go there to improve my self not my resume. if you want to improve your resume then go to French Africa it will look better
